Final Evaluation

In reflection of my project, I started with a very loose idea about anger and I developed this idea into a project about history and evilness. My project is a book/journal made into a bestiary of evil men and women throughout history. I made the bound the book myself and made the cover leather to emulate a old fashioned book. I also created a digital version of each double page.

I chose to do my work traditionally to start as I wanted to piece to emulate a handwritten and hand drawn journal by an individual, I also chose this way of working as I ave found that I much prefer my drawings and sketches in my initial sketchbooks during projects rather than my final pieces so I thought doing all of it traditionally would make my final piece more in my style. I think that overall my project was successful in some ways and unsuccessful in others. I think that choosing to use ink pens was a good idea and I think that it really does look like an old journal however I think that the writing and some of the ink work is a bit sloppy which makes it seem less polished. This is why I chose to digitalise it as well.

I do think that my final piece isn’t exactly what I imagined it would be, it feels a little rushed and doesn’t look as pleasing to the eye as I would have hoped. One thing I could have done to improve this is to put more thought and much more detail and process into each drawings even if that meant sacrificing some of the pages.

If I had more time I would add more people into the book to fill it out and perhaps give a narrative to the owner of the book, who is it?,why do they have this book? etc. I would also spend more time designing the characters I have drawn trying to create each of them into more evident monsters and physically more monstrous however I just did not have the time to create 9 different character designs that would have been actually good.

One problem I faced with this project was sensitivity issues, and I think that I have done a good job in making the book about how evil they actually were and I tried my hardest not to capture them in a light that would be insensitive to people who were effected by them.

In conclusion I had a clear and precise aim of my project that I developed into what it is. I then executed this idea into a readable and clear outcome that achieves what it is set out to achieve. The project could have been improved in technical ways and in creative ways however I am happy with what I produced in the time frame we had.
