Points Of View Project Statement Of Intent

For my project I have decided to do Homelessness, a persistent problem that surrounds us.I have chosen this because of my personal connection to the problem, my mother , a homelessness officer, sparked my interest into the issue and has made me realize how awful it is. After all my research I have realized that what needs to be said about homelessness has been said many times over, so I think what is important for my work is it to be a personal response. In my three final pieces what I am aiming to do is to record different  real stories that I've gathered from my Mother who is an Homelessness Officer, using different lighting, colour and angles to show my different 'points of views'. I will use images that I have taken to compile illustrations in an almost collage style.

I want to highlight the problem of homelessness in the UK. The illustrations will be digital as I think that it will be the best way of creating images that pop out, using the references I have taken I will create drawings of people and surroundings, very much like Olivier Kuglers work. Oliver Kugler was one of my biggest inspirations that has influenced my ideas for my final pieces, I love his style and how he compiles information and stories and recounts of events in a striking way. I think these three pieces will take inspiration from parts of Kuglers work and hopefully create the same kind of atmosphere that he creates in his work, that being bringing social and political problems to peoples faces.

I will take the images and use parts from each photographs to layer drawings around to create a composition of what I see. I will also use text over and in the image to show the three different stories, I think bringing text into the images will help it become more striking and especially the use of names (even though they are not the real names of the people) will become more personal . I want to bring light to homelessness and want to do this by showing these personal and very real stories.

In the three different pieces I will try to show my points of views mostly though colour pallet changes and hopefully different perspectives through my photographs. What I want my work to convey is how the homeless are not some separate group of people, they are not useless members of society, they are just people. Just like the people that will be looking at the three images.

Overall my three final pieces will be strive to be striking, punchy illustrations of compiled information and stories that I hope will spark sympathy and thought in those who look at them. I hope they will help start a conversation in peoples heads on what we can do about the terrible reality of homelessness.
